Research Spotlight: New Findings on Inflammation and Healthy Aging

As we age, maintaining a balanced inflammatory response becomes increasingly important. Researchers are studying inflammaging—the chronic, low-grade inflammatory state associated with aging—and looking for ways to support the body's natural ability to regulate inflammation.

One area of growing interest is the role of bioactive peptides and nucleotides in supporting immune and cellular function.

What Research Says About Bioactive Peptides

Bioactive peptides are short chains of amino acids that can interact with biological pathways in the body. Recent research has identified peptides with antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory activity.

A 2025 review published in Proteomes examined research on bioactive peptides and inflammatory responses. Researchers found that certain peptides can influence inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α and IL-6, as well as pathways involved in inflammatory signaling.¹  This growing body of research is helping scientists better understand how naturally derived peptides may interact with pathways involved in inflammation and cellular health.

 Why Nucleotides Matter

Nucleotides are more than just building blocks for DNA and RNA. Research has also explored their role in immune function and tissue recovery, particularly when the body is under stress.  A review published in Nutrition in Clinical Practice describes dietary nucleotides as important for rapidly proliferating cells, including immune and intestinal cells. The review also summarizes research suggesting that dietary nucleotides may support immune competence, intestinal development, and recovery following physiological stress.²

Earlier research has similarly explored how dietary nucleotides may influence immune responses and intestinal health, providing a foundation for continued investigation into their nutritional role.³

Bringing the Science Together

The research surrounding peptides and nucleotides continues to evolve, but both are being investigated for their roles in immune function, cellular activity, and the body's natural repair processes.

Halomere™ brings these two areas of nutritional science together in a formulation containing a spectrum of naturally derived bioactive peptides and nucleotides from fungal mycelium.  Our formulation is designed to provide nutritional support for cellular health, recovery, and healthy aging.
